No matter what your business or personal project is, if it is not rooted in a community, I have a hard time believing it will be successful. Our struggles as women and people of color are not new, but the constant oppression that has created so much pain and trauma through generations has now been met with a resistance that is not only vibrant and diverse but also mostly led by women.
Eileen is someone the universe put in my path in a very genuine and unique way. Far more than we had in common intellectually, our human experience as Dominican women almost immediately created an honest and loving sisterhood. One that now lives in photos as well.
This month, I am delighted to be part of the latest issue of Mujeres Wear Pants called Sisterhood. Not only was it fascinating to see Eileen’s vision come to life, it was also a transformative and healing experience to be styled and photographed by women of color. Everything from sharing stories while we got out makeup done to smiling because we all felt so comfortable and happy in each other’s company - it was a feeling I want more women and women of color to experience.

No importa cuál sea tu negocio o proyecto personal, si no está dedicado y basado en una comunidad, me cuesta mucho creer que tendrás éxito. Nuestras luchas como mujeres y personas de color no son nuevas, pero la constante opresión que ha creado tanto dolor y trauma a través de generaciones ahora se ha encontrado con una resistencia que no solo es vibrante y diversa sino que también está dirigida principalmente por mujeres.
Eileen es alguien que el universo puso en mi camino de una manera muy genuina y única. Mucho más de lo que teníamos en común intelectualmente, nuestra experiencia humana como mujeres dominicanas casi de inmediato creó una hermandad honesta y amorosa. Una que ahora también vive en fotos.
Este mes, estoy encantada de ser parte de la última edición de Mujeres Wear Pants llamado Sisterhood. No solo fue fascinante ver la visión de Eileen volverse realidad, sino que también ser diseñada y fotografiada por mujeres de color fue una experiencia transformadora y curativa. Todo, desde compartir historias mientras nos hacíamos el maquillaje hasta sonreír porque todos nos sentíamos tan cómodos y felices en la compañía del otro; era un sentimiento que quiero que experimenten más mujeres y mujeres de color.
