Summer Food Fest en Santiago de los Caballeros

Just in time to start with food as our topic of the month here at Hola, Rita, this past June 1st, 2nd and 3rd, we went to the Parque Central in Santiago for the first edition of the Summer Food Fest, a gastronomic festival organized by Todo Tickets.
The event included food trucks, restaurants and bars from Santiago and Santo Domingo, with favorites like Chef Guevara, Hielo y Sal and La Porteña, and also some newer proposals such as Cosita Rica, a healthy offering, and Andrea's, which made its debut in the festival with some delicious cachapas and Colombian arepas. From Santo Domingo we were visited by food trucks such as Shaggy’s Shawarma, Hillbilly’s and Patatas Fritas, which turned out to be a success, as demonstrated by the constant long lines of people waiting to try their dishes. From there we tried La Melenuda, which was a winner in our book.
In addition to the food trucks and restaurants, the clear protagonists of the event, the Summer Food Fest also had a small market full of unique garments and accessories of all kinds, as well as inflatable and mechanical games for the youngest of the house (and for the not-so-young if you’re into that). I also can’t skip highlighting the cibaeño talent that was presented on stage, especially Casabe Añejo and Chris Romero, who put the audience to mover las caderas wether they planned to or not. Another highlight of the event was the fact that it that was pet- friendly, thanks to the presence of Royal Kanin and the Pet Hospital veterinary.
Something emphasized among a few attendees was the fact that they expected a bigger presence of food trucks from Santo Domingo, since there was not much novelty in relation to what can be found in the different food trucks parks of Santiago on any given day. Anyway, I had a good time the three days I attended, and the most interesting thing about these kind of activities, besides the delicious food and having so many options in one place, is that you can count on the fact that you’ll know at least one person that will be there. So you can arrive alone and still be sure to have a good time.
This food trucks thing is giving a different vibe to Santiago, and events such as the Summer Food Fest only get me more excited about what is coming.
Justo a tiempo para iniciar con la comida como el tema del mes en Hola, Rita el pasado 1, 2 y 3 de Junio, estuvimos en el Parque Central de Santiago participando en la primera edición del Summer Food Fest, un festival gastronómico organizado por Todo Tickets.
En el evento participaron food trucks, restaurantes y bares de Santiago y Santo Domingo, con favoritos como Chef Guevara, Hielo y Sal y La Porteña, y también algunas propuestas más nuevas como la de Cosita Rica, una opción de comida saludable, y Andrea’s, el cual hizo su debut en el festival con unas ricas cachapas y arepas colombianas. Desde Santo Domingo nos visitaron food trucks como Shaggy’s Shawarma, Hillbilly’s y Patatas Fritas, el cual resultó ser un éxito, como demostraron las filas de gente a la expectativa de probar sus platos. De estos últimos probé fué La Melenuda, el cual estuvo dentro de mis favoritos.
Además de los carritos y restaurantes, los indudables protagonistas del evento, el Summer Food Fest contó también con un mercadito lleno de prendas de vestir únicas y accesorios de todo tipo, además de juegos inflables y mecánicos para los más chiquitos de la casa (y para los no tanto). Tampoco puedo dejar de resaltar el talento cibaeño que se presentó en el escenario, especialmente Casabe Añejo y Chris Romero, quienes pusieron al público a mover las caderas y botar el golpe. Otra cosa que nos encantó del evento fue el hecho de que el evento que fuera pet-friendly, gracias a la presencia de Royal Kanin y la veterinaria Pet Hospital.
Hizo eco entre los asistententes el comentario de que esperaban mayor participación de food trucks de Santo Domingo, ya que no había mucha novedad en relación a lo que pueden encontrar en los diferentes food truck parks de Santiago en un día cualquiera. De todos modos, pasamos un buen rato, y lo más interesante de actividades como esta, además de la deliciosa comida y tener tantas opciones en un solo sitio, es que es el tipo de evento donde todo el mundo se encuentra, así que aún llegues solo, de seguro encontrarás al menos una persona que conozcas para pasarla bien.
Esto de los food trucks le está dando un aire diferente a Santiago, y eventos como el Summer Food Fest solo me emocionan más por lo que viene.
