Por y Para Ti Mamá

If there’s something I deeply enjoy about being part of the Hola, Rita team is how, since its inception, this project has inspired me to analyze topics I don’t usually pay much attention to. And now, with our monthly topics, I have even more reasons to stop and consider these subjects. When we decided that March would be a celebration of mujeres, I knew I ought to get out from behind the scenes and write another post. Words, whether for reading or for writing, have always been my strength after all. That’s why this post is dedicated to you, mamá.

For you, a woman that does not need a special occasion to try on new clothes, because waking up each day is good enough a reason to feel beautiful, and to wear a perfume that leaves your name on the hallways.

For you, that insisted that I learn how to cook, and now celebrate with such pleasure whatever meal I prepare for you, big or small.

For you, that have demonstrated time after time the importance of being grateful, and of being present while your loved ones are alive. That has shown me how, even from within the sadness that death brings, it is possible to feel the satisfaction of having given them your best.

For you, an example of how to be a strong woman, and the one that has taught me to be independent of whatever others think or do, although I know I have given you your share of headaches.

This post is dedicated to you, mamá, because when I asked myself who is the woman that I admire the most, your name came to my mind without a question.
