Confesiones de una Bloguera

Hola, rita. turned a year this month, and although I wish it was in a more developed stage, I cannot deny it has helped me navigate one of the most defining, exciting, scary and emotionally draining years of my life.

I hope that I have made it clear that this blog is an outlet of expression, and a platform to share what I know (or what I think I know), my experience as a latina and immigrant in the United States, and bits and pieces of the topics that truly interest me and that I want to learn more about.

The truth is, blogging is a full time job, and unless you have a team of experts putting in content that is not yours nor original, it is a whole lot of work.

Now, I also want to note, that no blog is ever perfect when it is first created. It truly takes time to find your voice, the aesthetic you want, a schedule to write new content and even more so, a schedule to keep the blog growing and evolving, just like you.

Still, if you are thinking about starting your own website/blog, I have one piece of advice for you: do it.

We live in a world where your online presence is just as important as how you present yourself in person, and you should totally take advantage of it. Have interesting work? Post it. Have a ton to say about a specific subject? Write it and put it out there. Reading news is your thing? Create a twitter and curate a feed people would love to follow to stay updated and start up good conversations.

The worst that can happen? It might not have the success you wanted, but I am 100% positive the experience of putting yourself out there will be worth it. Trust me when I tell you, there’s a lot of people looking for something interesting to read or to look at, and at the very least you get to connect with them and both of you will learn something new.

Hola, Rita. Cumplió un año este mes y aunque tal ves quisiera que estuviera en una etapa más avanzada, no puedo negar que este espacio me ha ayudado a navegar un importante, alucinante, atemorizador y emocionalmente cargado año de mi vida.

Espero que a estas alturas esté claro que este blog es un medio de expresión para mí, y una plataforma en la cual comparto todo lo que sé (o creo que sé), mi experiencia como una latina e inmigrante en los Estados Unidos, y pequeñas publicaciones de temas que de verdad me interesan y que quiero seguir explorando.

La verdad es que bloguear es un trabajo de tiempo completo, y a menos que cuentes con un equipo de expertos produciendo un contenido que no es tuyo ni original, es muchísimo trabajo.

También quisiera hacer énfasis en la importancia entender que ningún blog será perfecto o genial desde el inicio. Toma tiempo encontrar tu voz, la estética deseada, un horario que funcione para escribir contenido nuevo y, todavía más importante, un plan y horario para mantener el blog creciendo y evolucionando, al igual que tú.

De todos modos, si estás pensando crear tu propio blog/página tengo un solo consejo para ti: hazlo.

Vivimos en un mundo en el cual tu presencia Online es igual de importante que la que tienes en persona y deberías sin lugar a dudas aprovecharte de ello. Tienes contenido bueno? Compártelo. Tienes mucho que decir acerca de un un tema que te apasiona? Escríbelo y deja que el mundo lo lea y aprenda. Te gusta mucho leer las noticias? Abre tu cuenta de Twitter y crea un perfil con contenido que la gente le guste seguir y que los mantenga informados y les permita comenzar conversaciones interesantes.

¿Que es lo peor que puede pasar? Tal vez no tenga el éxito que quisieras, pero estoy segurísima que el hecho de que te expongas a otros valdrá la pena. Créeme cuando te digo que hay miles de personas buscando contenido nuevo para leer o explorar, y que como mínimo conectaras con personas que aprenderán algo nuevo de ti y tú de ellos.
