If I am being very honest, there are days when I rethink if I want to keep holarita.com up. There is no time off, afternoons for a hobby, or sleeping in without consequences, because every time I am not working on it, I am not advancing and growing - which is something I need to do if I want to turn this website and community into what I dream it can be.
Still, everytime doubt and laziness start to win some of my personal battles, I bump into content like this interview and remember exactly why I believe in this project.
Women of color are truly incredible. There is so much depth to us, to our stories and to our narratives that are not yet well known, commonly explored, or properly documented. Our bold existence is an act of resistance in a world where we are often seen as less, “different” or as objects to be hyper-sexualized.
And it is precisely because of women like Princess Nokia and many other wonderful artists, thinkers, bloggers and business women that I want to help change the narrative that seems all too familiar: Straight, white, somewhat (or very) privileged. I want to give OUR stories a space where they can be told with respect. Respect towards ourselves, and respect towards our cultures, beliefs, and unique human experiences.
It is because and for women of color that I wake up in the morning trying to figure out where can I fit ten minutes to translate the next post, answer some emails and touch base with our contributor who, it is worth mentioning, make this site what it is and what it will continue to be.
I have so many dreams, and every time I remember exactly why I am doing what I am doing, I am more and more sure they will come to live. Maybe not exactly like I wanted them, but probably bigger and better.

Si te soy bien honesta, hay días en los que dudo seguir trabajando en holarita.com. No tengo tengo tiempo libre, tardes para un hobby o mañanas para dormir sin consecuencias, ya que cada momento que no estoy trabajando en cierta capacidad en este proyecto no estoy avanzando y creciendo - lo cual es algo necesario para que está página y comunidad llegue al nivel que sueño.
Pero aún así, cada vez que la duda gana algunas de mis batallas personales, me topo con entrevistas como esta que me ayudan a recordar exactamente por qué creo en este proyecto.
Las mujeres de color son increíbles. Hay tanta profundidad en nuestros seres, nuestras historias y nuestra narrativa que todavía no son bien conocidas, comúnmente exploradas ni documentadas correctamente. Nuestra valiente existencia es un acto de resistencia en un mundo en el muchas veces nos ven como menos, “diferentes” o como objetos que se pueden hipersexualizar.
Y es precisamente por mujeres como Princess Nokia y otras maravillosas artistas, pensadoras, bloggers y dueñas de negocios que quiero cambiar la narrativa que es tan común: heterosexual, blanca y privilegiada. Quiero brindar un espacio en el cual NUESTRAS historias se puedan contar con respeto. Respeto hacia nosotras y hacia nuestras culturas, creencias y unicas experiencias humanas.
Es por y para la mujer de color que me levanto en las mañanas y busco tiempo donde sea para traducir el siguiente post, responder algunos emails y ponerme en contacto con nuestras contribuidoras, las cuales vale la pena mencionar hacen de esta página lo que es y continuará siendo.
Tengo tantos sueños y cada vez que el universo me recuerda por qué hago lo que hago estoy más segura que se harán realidad. Tal vez no de la manera que sueño, pero probablemente mejor.
