Uptown Bounce Launch

I have vivid memories of hanging out with my many cousins at a park near grandma's house. We would play and talk for hours, but there was always danger involved, anxiety really.

My Mom would always ask herself, are they safe? Can we really let them play there without supervision for the entire time? These days I hear you are lucky to go out and come back with all of your belongings.

Once I moved to NYC, a city that is not only full of people and bustling with activity, but that is also investing and working to create stronger and better communities, I couldn't believe the amount of events and opportunities I had to be outside, and even dance while feeling safe and welcomed.

This past Wednesday July 27th was the first Uptown Bounce in East Harlem, a six week long summer event hosted by The Museum of The City of New York, El Museo Del Barrio and other partners, like Gothamist.

The theme for the launch was 70’s music, and I can't begin to tell you how much fun it was. People from all ages and walks of life were together dancing right outside of museum. There were drinks, food carts and free entry to both museums. Just my type of party.

This time Chan and I only got to go to the city museum, where we took a peek at their New York’s Yiddish Theatre: From the Bowery to Broadway  and Roz Chast's “Can we talk about something more pleasant?”, an incredibly funny, real and touching collection of the work from the famous (female!) cartoonist.

Uptown Bounce is completely free and is happening every Wednesday evening from 6-9PM through Wednesday August 17th. Stop by, visit the museums and even dance for a bit! Coming to these events leaves a very sweet taste in my mouth, and I can only hope more and more people continue to show their love and support organizations that are working to preserve and promote culture.
