Viaje A Arizona Día 3

The more I write about this trip, the more epic it seems to me. We did so much in just 3 days.

On our third day in Arizona, we woke up in Flagstaff for Chelsea’s birthday. We were definitely not feeling young, wild and free the night before, so we decided to hit the sack pretty early so we could feel a little bit more rested that day. 

After a quick breakfast at the hostel we got ready to drive around town for a little bit to try to find a Route 66 sign to take a picture with, but we were not successful. We then headed out of town towards Phoenix, where I had scheduled a haircut at this cute salon I found while walking around on Saturday, and Chelsea planned to visit a couple more stores.

As I mentioned on earliest posts, the best part of this particular trip was that we kept going with the flow so I moved my appointment to later so we could take our time and stop by Sedona.

The bar lady from the night before, who told us about leaving Wisconsin 15 years ago and moving to Arizona for a relationship that didn't work out, was definitely not lying. The drive through Sedona was breathtaking.

As you take the Sedona exit you start with a forest that was covered in snow this time of the year. Continuing down you start this super curvy road that all of the sudden opens to an incredible view of red mountains with white and green all over. It was fenomenal.

As we went down it kept getting warmer so we decided to stop and snap a couple of shots, which are easily some of my favorites after the canyon. We then pulled out Yelp and decided to visit a cafe a couple of mins away, right on the road named Indian Gardens.

Grabbing a bite there there is probably one of the best decisions you will make when visiting. The open space and counter is followed by an outside garden entirely covered in trees and plants, where there was enough sunshine to make anyone from the east coast feel ecstatic. Chelsea enjoyed a bacon and Brie sandwich with, get this, a honey sauce, while I went for a gluten free turkey and avocado sandwich. Given the occasion, I also got us a French onion soup to share and some drinks.

After leaving this dreamy place we enjoyed more of the red and curvy road to continue to Phoenix. Right after my haircut we went to enjoy oysters, drinks and food at the same place where Barrio Urbano is located, and visited both Little Cleo’s and Culinary Dropout, who also share the outside yard area. 

I honestly cannot wait to see where our adventures takes us soon. This was probably the best birthday gift we have given ourselves and a much needed reminder of the great friendship we share and the life that happens outside of work.

Visit Arizona! I promise you it will be worth it.

Entre más escribo acerca de este viaje, más épico me parece. Hicimos muchísimas en solo 3 días.

Durante nuestro tercer día en Arizona nos levantamos en Flagstaff para el cumpleaños de Che. Definitivamente no nos estábamos sintiendo jóvenes y libres la noche anterior por lo que decidimos irnos a la cama bien temprano para sentirnos un poco más descansadas al día siguiente.

Luego de un breve desayuno en el hostal nos preparamos para manejar por la ciudad tratando de buscar un letrero de la histórica ruta 66 con el cual tomarnos una foto, pero lamentablemente no dimos con el. Luego de allí comenzamos a manejar hacia Phoenix, donde yo había hecho una cita para un corte de pelo en un salón súper lindo con el cual nos topamos mientras exploramos el sábado, mientras Chelsea planeaba ir a un par de tiendas más. 

Como he mencionado en los otros posts de Arizona, lo mejor de este vieja fue que siempre lo mantuvimos lo más flexible posible, así que cambié mi cita para más tarde para que pudiéramos tomarnos más tiempo y pararnos en Sedona.

La mujer del bar la noche antes, la cual nos contó que se mudó desde Wisconsin a Arizona hace ya 15 años por un entonces novio que no funcionó, no estaba para nada mintiendo, manejar por Sedona es impresionante.

Cuando tomas la salida de Sedona comienzas con un bosque que para esta época está cubierto de nieve. Mientras manejas en esta carretera repleta de curvas de un momento a otro el paisaje revela una vista impresionante de montañas rojas con manchas verdes y blancas en todos lados. Fue fenomenal.

Mientras seguimos bajando se puso más y más caliente así que decidimos pararnos a tomar algunas fotos, las cuales son unas de mis favoritas luego de las del cañón. Para ese entonces ya era hora de almorzar así que abrimos Yelp y decidimos visitar un café a unos pocos minutos de dónde estábamos, en la misma carretera llamado Indian Gardens.

Pararse a comer allí es una de las mejores decisiones que vas a tomar mientras visitas esta área. La parte delantera del restaurante se convierte en un hermoso jardín en la parte trasera cubierto de árboles donde da la luz del sol de tal manera que cualquiera de la costa este se emociona. Chelsea disfrutó de un Sandwich de tocineta y queso brie con una, espera a escuchar esto, salsa de miel mientras que yo disfruté de un Sándwich de jamón de pavo y aguacate en un pan sin gluten. Ya que la ocasión era muy especial pedí una sopa de cebolla para compartir y unas cervezas.

Luego de irnos de este hermoso lugar disfrutamos de un poco más de la impresionante carretera para continuar a Phoenix. Justo luego de mi corte de pelo nos fuimos a disfrutar de ostiones, tragos y buena comida en el mismo lugar donde está ubicado Barrio Urbano en Little Cleo’s y Culinary Dropout, los cuales comparten la misma terraza.

Honestamente no puedo esperar a ver donde nuestras aventuras nos llevan en los próximos años. Este fue probablemente uno de los mejores regalos de cumpleaños que nos hemos dado y un muy necesitado recordatorio de la hermosa amistad que tengo y la vida que se disfruta fuera de la oficina y del día a día.

Visita Arizona! Te prometo que valdrá la pena.
